I've always loved American Gods, originally a novel by Neil Gaiman. I have not watched the series, because I'm afraid it might ruin the world I've imagined when I read the book. 

Does the story translate well into film? I heard Gaiman is involved in the show, but I am just not sure how much control he has creatively.
