The United Arab Emirates is considering giving its seven Emirates a casino license each. Although some Emirates plan to develop a casino, Dubai is not keen on having a gaming complex anytime soon. Also, Dubai already has a booking tourism sector. Thus, there is no need for a casino resort to attract tourists.
According to online sports wagering reports, high-ranking government officials in Dubai did not view the ability to offer gambling as a priority. They claim that the tourism industry was already thriving. However, they provided no time limit for how long a casino idea might be put on hold.
Sports betting experts estimated the UAE might generate as much as US$6.6 billion in yearly gambling revenue. Thus, it would overtake Singapore in the future.
Seven Emirates a Casino License Each
At an investor event in September, MGM Resorts International CEO and President Bill Hornbuckle said the company hoped to be granted permission to run a casino in Dubai in the future. MGM Resorts International is the parent company of Macau concessionaire MGM China Holdings Ltd. No specific timeframe was provided by him.
According to soccer betting experts, the parent company of Wynn Macau Ltd operates casinos in Macau. Wynn plans to develop a $3.9 billion integrated resort in Ras Al Khaimah, a constituent emirate north of Dubai. Also, they named the project Wynn Al Marjan Island.
Jim Murren, ex-CEO of MGM Resorts, now chairs UAE’s General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority or GCGRA. According to sports betting reports, the commission will oversee commercial gambling establishments and a national lottery.
