For the past four years, a Russian ship has been anchored at port off the Siberian coast, not far from Alaska. Using tiny modular reactors, the world's first floating nuclear power station, the Akademik Lomonosov, provides electricity to around 200,000 people on land.

This technology is also being used underwater. The tiny reactors, as they are called, power dozens of US submarines in the depths of the world's oceans.
